Edinburgh’s Christmas rolls into town

This Thursday (November 24) marks the official start of Edinburgh’s Christmas and it looks like the street fair is set to be the biggest and best yet.

We can’t wait to hit the Ferris wheel and browse the German market – and know that you’ll just love them too.

In fact, there’s no better way to kick off the festive spirit. That’s why we’ve decided round up some of our favourite seasonal happenings taking place just minutes from 23 Melville Street:

Edinburgh Christmas Light Night – November 24

Once Edinburgh’s Christmas launches at 10am, the Edinburgh Wheel will start turning, the Christmas markets will be in full swing and the ice rink will open for business. It’s one of the most exciting dates on the calendar with people – young and old – from all walks of life turning out to get in the festive mood. Then, at 5.15pm, the lights of The Mound’s Norwegian Christmas tree will be switched on before pipers lead a procession to St Andrew Square to hear carol singers herald the arrival of the nation’s favourite time of year.

St Andrews Day Celebrations – November 26

For more Christmas magic, make your way to Edinburgh Castle on November 26 and 27 for the St Andrews Day finale – a fire and frost-themed show. While ice sculptures line the esplanade, fire animations will be projected onto the castle walls, followed by a spectacular fireworks display just before 10pm on the Sunday.

Cinderella at The Kings Theatre – from December 3

Don’t miss Forth One presenter Grant Stott, who was here at 23 Melville Street for our launch earlier this year, as you’ve never seen him before – in this year’s panto, Cinderella. It’s a one-off chance to see Grant don a pair of stockings and stilettos for a classic case of ‘he’s behind you’ while he stars alongside TV funny men Allan Stewart and Andy Gray as one of the ugly sisters. It’s your chance to boo, hiss and eat as many sweets as you like!
