Why positive thinking pays off: 5 reasons to be happy at work

Want to boost your productivity quick smart? Then get happy... it’s as simple as that.

Research has shown that the single best way to increase your productivity is by actually liking your job. Here’s why:

1) Happy people work better as part of a team

No one has ever forged good relationships based on being resentful and bitter, but people who actually enjoy going into work are generally more light hearted, fun and easier to get on with. By giving out a positive vibe, you are likely to enhance teamwork, internal communications, customer relations and sales figures. You will also be more motivated, more optimistic, and work more efficiently which, ultimately, can and probably will rub off on the rest of the team.

2) Happy people are better at problem solving

Unhappy people tend to look at everything negatively and are more likely to spend their time and energy complaining about problems rather than fixing them. Happy workers, on the other hand, will get their thinking caps on straight away to rectify whatever’s wrong for the good of the company.

3) Happy people make better decision makers

Unhappy people tend to perceive their world as being in permanent crisis and therefore are more likely to make irrational decisions without considering the bigger picture. Upbeat people, however, are capable of making more informed decisions and tend to be a lot more comfortable with the whole process.

4) Happy people are less prone to sickness and work-related stress

When you’re happy in your job you’re less likely to call in sick or suffer from mental health issues like depression or work-related stress or even physical aspects like exhaustion.

5) Happy people are more creative and learn quicker

Feeling good means being more relaxed and open to new thoughts and ideas while being enthusiastic helps you to pick up new skills much quicker.
